Celebration of Life services for Wynell Nelson, 83, of Gladewater will be 11:00 a.m. Sunday, March 24, 2019, at the Croley Funeral Home Chapel in Gilmer with Mr. Danny Darden and Rev. Bill Tinsley officiating. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Mrs. Nelson passed away Tuesday, March 19, 2019, at her home in Gladewater.
Mrs. Nelson was born January 6, 1936 in Upshur County to the late Richard Orlando Smith and Katie Estelle Thompson Smith and was one of eleven children. Wynell worked for more than 30 years as a sitter and caregiver for numerous people. She never met a stranger and was always willing to help those in need. Wynell was confident and lived her life to the fullest. She enjoyed playing cards, dominos, Wii Bowling, going dancing two nights a week and spending time with family and friends. Her greatest joy came from gardening and working in the yard; she spent as much time as she could planting and raising beautiful flowers. Wynell loved her family especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will forever be remembered by all the loving family and friends she leaves behind.
She is survived by her daughter LeAnne McFarland and husband Kelly; son-in-law Paul Allen; eight grandchildren Rusty Allen, Scott Allen, Amanda Allen, Mary Lynn Roux, Misty Mendoza, Mary Higgs, Melissa Wiler and Kyle McFarland; sixteen great grandchildren as well as many other loving family and friends.
Mrs. Nelson is preceded in death by her parents, husband Gerald Nelson, daughter Sharon Allen and ten siblings.
