Wanda Lee Couch

Wanda Couch of Mansfield, Texas and a longtime resident of Ore City, Texas peacefully passed away on Friday, July 12, 2024, in Mansfield, Texas.

Wanda was one of eleven children born to William Robert and Ruth Aaron and was their last surviving child. She was born and raised in Leachville, Arkansas where she attended all twelve years of school. Growing up she and her siblings helped chop cotton when it was ready to harvest, as their school had a split term for helping with the cotton crops. Wanda was the only one of her siblings that attended college. She spent two years at Lee College in Tennessee. Her roommate introduced her to her future husband, Jack Couch of Gadsden, Alabama on a trip to Alabama. Jack and Wanda married on November 26, 1948, in Rising Fawn, GA. They lived in Gadsden until their daughter, Karen was born. When Karen was nine months old, they traveled to Texas to begin their married life as Texans. Their son, Michael, was born three years later. They lived in Ore City, Texas for over 50 years, until Jack’s health forced them to move into a retirement community in Longview, Texas. After Jack passed away, Wanda moved to Mansfield to be nearer their daughter, Karen. She lived in Mansfield for 13 years.

Wanda spent her time raising her kids, teaching Sunday School, being a Cub Scout leader mom, and a PTA volunteer. She loved to play cards, dominoes, word games and bingo.

Wanda is survived by her daughter Karen and husband, Steve Payton and sons Brent, Brandon and wife Tia, and great granddaughter Isabella. She is also survived by her son Michael Couch and wife Duana, granddaughter Morgan and husband Curt Johnson, great granddaughters Reese and Harper and Michael’s son, Scott. She is also survived by two brothers-in-law, James and Charlie Couch, and Charlie’s wife, Paula and numerous nieces and nephews.

No service is planned. Wanda was laid to rest at Ore City Cemetery. Any memorials may be made to Ore City Methodist Church or to the Ore City Cemetery Association in Ore City, Texas 75683.
