Services for Vernon Eugene Thomas, 57, of Hawkins, will be held at a later date. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Croley Funeral Home in Gladewater. Born on September 21, 1956, in Gladewater, Texas, he died on Thursday, January 2, 2014. He was a self-employed laborer. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying woodcarving and fishing. He also enjoyed quality time spent with his family, especially his fifteen grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Joy Marie Thomas of Hawkins; son and daughter-in-law, John and Kimberly Thomas of Canton; two daughters, Betty Jennings and husband John Boren of Wills Point; Christina Thomas and husband Brad Oxford of Longview; fifteen grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brother, Bobby Thomas of Ohio; sister and brother-in-law, Sandra and Phillip Hewitt of Kilgore; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, A.C. and Elsie V. Thomas; three brothers, Danny Ray Thomas, James Thomas, Kenneth Thomas; two sisters, Amelia Young and Donna Thomas. No visitation is scheduled.
