Tommy Murrell Meeks, 91, passed away peacefully in Gilmer on July 2, 2022. He was born in Big Sandy on May 16, 1931 to the late Willy Carol and Edna Saddler Meeks. Tommy worked for many years, in several different capacities at Shaw Gas Station in Gladewater, never letting his difficulties with his vision keep him from putting in a hard day’s work. Tommy married Aileen and they enjoyed 13 years together, prior to her passing.
Tommy is survived by his nephews, John David McDonald with his wife, Lanora, and Charles Edwards McDonald; his nieces, Charlotte Louise Langford, Sandra Marie Jones and her husband, Wayne, Rhonda Wilcox, and Deborah Lou McClannahan; as well as many great, great- great and great-great-great nieces and nephews, all of whom he thought of as his immediate family, instead of extended family, making sure he asked about each of them in his regular “role call” that he had when talking with his family. He is preceded in death by both his parents, Willy Carol and Edna Meeks; his beloved wife, Aileen Meeks, his brothers Willy James Meeks and Carl Dean Meeks; his sister, Bessie Louise McDonald; nephews Johnny Lawrence McDonald and Larry Thomas Langford; and his niece, Rebecca Gail Gaston.
Graveside services for Tommy will be held on Wednesday, July 6, 2022 at 11:00 am at the Hopewell Cemetery in Gilmer. A visitation will be held from 10:00-10:45, prior to the graveside services at Croley Funeral Home in Gilmer.
