Tommy Loys Ferguson was born on March 6, 1935, in Ore City, Texas to Loyce and Zella Ferguson. He passed away December 29, 2023, at his home in Ore City surrounded by his wife and four children. He was a lifelong member of the First Methodist Church in Ore City.
He served in the Marines during the Korean War. He was a lifetime educator; teacher, high school principal, school superintendent, and retired from education after serving 13 years as an administrator at Lon Morris College in Jacksonville, totaling 50 years of service in administration and education.
He was preceded in death by his parents Loyce and Zella Ferguson; sister, Gail Fuller; and grandson, Ryan Campbell.
Tommy is survived by his wife of 48 years Anita; daughter, Alishia Ferguson of Fayetteville, Arkansas; daughter and son in law, Alison and Doyle Campbell of Ore City; son and daughter in law, Wes and Brandi Ferguson of Canton, Texas; daughter and son in law, Jennifer and Thomas Watson of Amarillo, Texas; seven grandchildren, Dillon, Callee, Connor, Mackenzie, Jill, Ryder, and Autumn; six great grandchildren; brother, Joe “Buddy” Ferguson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the First Methodist Church of Ore City, the Ryan Campbell scholarship fund at First National Bank of East Texas, or St. Jude’s Research Hospital.
Memorial service for Tommy will be held on Monday, January 1, 2024, at the First Methodist Church of Ore City at 2PM with a visitation held at the church one hour prior to the service at 1PM.
