Funeral services for, Tommy Austin Black, age 77, of Gilmer, are scheduled for 11:00 AM on Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at the First United Methodist Church of Gilmer, Rev. Duncan Graham officiating, services will conclude at the church. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 20, 2018 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Croley Funeral Home of Gilmer.
Tommy was born on June 13, 1940 in Lamesa, Texas to the late W.T. and Ruth Owens Black. He passed from this life on Sunday, February 18, 2017 in Gilmer. He worked for 20 years in Dallas, becoming the President and CEO of J & S Carburetor at age 28, he was also a gifted inventor, holding several patents for his ideas. Together with his family, he retired to Gilmer in 1979, where he enjoyed woodworking, working on cars and spending time with his family.
He married the former, Glenda Ann Robison in 1963 in Alto, TX; also surviving are his son, Austin Black and wife Stacey of Waco; daughter, Stephanie Ferrata of Cypress; sister, Ruth Byrd of Port Neches; Austin’s children, Madeline Black, Margaret Black, Benjamin Black, Sadie Black; Stephanie’s children, Taylor Womack, Kayleigh Ferrata, and Barrett Ferrata.
Tommy was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Wesley Thomas Black and son–in-law, Greg Ferrata.
