Thelma Smith

Gladewater -- Thelma Smith, 85, of Longview, went to be with her heavenly Father on Friday, October 26, 2012. She was born on July 26, 1927, in Gladewater to Bill and Vallie Barnhart. She was a member of the East Mountain Baptist Church. The Lord blessed her with her husband of 66 years, John O. "Buddy" Smith, and three precious daughters. One daughter, Sarah Wilhelm, went to be with our Lord on December 20, 2001. Her husband, two daughters, Linda Giles and Kathleen Deteau, five grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren survive Mrs. Smith. Many friends from East Mountain Baptist Church also survive her. As per Mrs. Smith"s wishes, there will be no viewing, no visitation, and no funeral. She will be laid to rest at Rock Springs Cemetery in Gladewater. If so desired, memorial contributions may be made to the East Mountain Baptist Church, 315 East Mountain North, Gilmer, Texas 75645. To Those I Love When I am gone, just release me, let me go -- so I can move into my afterglow. You mustn"t tie me down with your tears; let"s be happy that we had so many years. I gave you my love, you can only guess how much you gave me in happiness. I thank you for the love you each have shown, but now it"s time I traveled on alone. So grieve for me awhile, if grieve you must, then let your grief be comforted with trust. It"s only for a while that we must part, so bless the memories within your heart. And then, when you must ome this way alone, I"ll greet you with a smile and a "Welcome Home."
