Stanley Glenn Roberts, Sr.

Funeral services for Stanley Glenn Roberts, Sr. will be held on Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at 10:00 AM in the chapel at Croley Funeral Home of Gladewater, with Charles Groce and Dave Haver officiating. Interment will follow at Rosedale Cemetery in Gladewater, with Steve Roberts, Stanley Roberts, Jr., Dustin Roberts, Daniel Roberts, Phillip McCammon, and Jeremy Rich serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be held from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at the funeral home.

Stanley was born at home in Liberty City, Texas on June 13, 1926 to the late Milam H. and Mary Emma Shrum Roberts. He passed away on Jan. 6, 2018 in Tyler, Texas at the age of 91.

He is preceded in death by two sons, Marvin and Johnny Roberts; three brothers, Milam, Marvin and John Henry Roberts. He is survived by a daughter, Karen Schuemack and husband Jay; two sons, Steve Roberts and wife Kristy, Stanley Roberts, Jr. and wife Judy; eight Grandchildren, twelve Great Grandchildren, many nieces, & nephews, family and friends.

Stan enlisted in the Navy in 1944. He was a Medical Corpsman serving with the 1st Marine Division in Tientsin, China and with the 5th marines in Guam. He also served aboard the USS Lindenwald LSD-6 in Arctic Service at Thule, Greenland.

During his time in the military, he attended optician school. Sometime after his honorable discharge, he worked as an optician and traveled throughout Texas opening Texas State Optical stores. Stan was a carpenter, a landman and entrepreneur. He enjoyed gardening and grew beautiful fruits and vegetables to share with family and friends.

Stan was a long time member of the Church of God and loved to research God's word. He was an avid student of the Bible.

Stan was a wonderful father, father-in-law, papaw, grandpa, uncle and friend.
