Sonya Jane Yocom Davis, 78, passed away peacefully on February 27, 2022 at home in Gilmer, TX. She was a lifetime resident of Upshur County and was born on July 20, 1943 to the late Cody R. and Johnnie Mae Brown Yocom.
Jane was a retired teacher with Gilmer ISD and a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church of Gilmer where she was a part of the F & F Sunday School Class. She was a wonderful cook, Grammy, Mother, and wife. She served as a board member of the Upshur County Museum, was a member of Dahlia Garden Club, and a lifetime member of the Texas Quilt Museum. She was also an active member of the Cotton Patch Quilt Guild, Cotton Strippers Circle.
Jane was preceded in death by her parents, Cody R. and Johnnie Mae Yocom, her brothers, Sherwin Yocom, Richard Yocom, brother-in-law Charlie Davis, and stepson Edward Davis. She is survived by her husband of 38 years, Phillip Davis; stepsons, Phillip Larry Davis, Jr. and wife Heidi and Tony Eugene Davis and wife Alicia; daughter, Janda Groves-Swimberghe and husband, Krist; sisters-in-law, Betty Lou Yocom and Julia Davis; grandchild, Micayla Janie Groves along with numerous nieces and nephews. Special mention to very dear friends Christy Shipman-Black, George Linton, Deloris McMullen, Pat Powell, Eddie Pricer, Richard and Ann Brown, Lori and Ricky John Metcalf for the love and support to the family.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, March 3, 2022 at the First United Methodist Church in Gilmer, TX, with Rev. Matthew Smith officiating, interment to follow at Sunset Memorial Park. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 10:00 AM at the church. Pallbearers for the service are Mark Stephenson, Don Vance, Jimmy Rieves, Ricky John Metcalf, Richard Brown, and George Linton.
The family requests memorials be made to Heart to Heart Hospice or First United Methodist Church, Gilmer.
