Sidney Rex Moughon was born on February 4, 1928, in Gilmer, Texas, to Rex Oswald and Ora Carroll Moughon. He joined his heavenly Father on February 14, 2014. Sid lived in Gilmer his entire life except for the time he spent in college. He graduated from Gilmer High school in 1945. He received a scholarship to play football at SMU and graduated from there in 1949. An accident prevented him from continuing his career as a football player but he became manager for various Mustang sports. After graduating from college he married Barbara White, his college sweetheart, and they returned to Gilmer where he worked at Gilmer National Bank. He also worked at Lone Star Steel and T&N Railroad for many years. For the last 30 years he had been able to do what he really loved "raise cattle on his acreage east of town. He is survived by his sons Wes Moughon of Las Cruces, New Mexico, Daniel Moughon and wife Jane of Fort Worth, a daughter Dinah Wade and husband Danny of Boerne. He married Peggy Dacus on April 3, 1982, and became a loving father to her two children. She survives him as well as Deron Dacus and wife Shannon of Tyler, and DeAnna Tyeskie of Longview. Also, surviving him are his grandchildren Sarah Wade , Benjamin Wade, Evart Moughon, Ruth Moughon, Esther Moughon, Silas Moughon, Charley Tyeskie, Mason Dacus and Sydney Dacus. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Barbara, and his son William Moughon. Sid never met a stranger and is survived by many friends who loved and respected him. He was truly a Christian man who loved the Lord and lived his faith every day. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. Graveside Services will be held 11 AM Tuesday, February 18, 2014, at the Gilmer City Cemetery with Brother James Parrish officiating. Visitation will be Monday, February 17, from 5:30 to 7:30 P.M., at Croley Funeral Home in Gilmer.
