Sidney M. Chandler

Funeral services for Sidney M. Chandler, Sr., 78, of Gilmer, Texas will be held at 10:00 A.M., on Thursday, October 27, 2016 at Croley Funeral Home Chapel in Gilmer with Reverend Donnie Chamberlain and Reverend Madison Caffey officiating. Interment will follow at Cherokee Cemetery in Upshur County.

Mr. Chandler passed away on Sunday, October 23, 2016 in Gilmer and was born on September 10, 1938 in Shelby County to Sam and Reba Chandler. He enjoyed softball, drag racing, and was a member of the Texas Horseshoe Pitchers Associations for over 30 years and was a state Champion. Mr. Chandler owned Westside Hardware and Appliances and was of the Baptist faith.

He is survived by his loving wife, Alice Chandler of Gilmer; children, Joseph Wayne and his wife, Beverly J. Bowers, Sharon Louise Carraher and her husband Raymond, Laura Lynn Donaghy and her husband Noel, Cathy Lanett Chandler, and Sidney “Boomer” Chandler; brothers, Stephen “Pete” Chandler of Gilmer, and Paul Chandler and his wife Mary, of Gilmer; grandchildren, Brain Allen Carraher and wife Alicia, Constance LaRee Harris and husband Clay, Blake Chandler and wife Shannon Head, Cassie DeLaina Samples and husband Josh, Matthew Arron Works, Whitney Nicole Gage, Brent Allen Gage, Jeremy Jamie Stevens and wife Rose, Halee Aleece Stevens and husband Justin, Andrew D. Chandler and wife Alina, Sydney Nicole Chandler, Morgan Paige Chandler, Jimmy Ryan Walker, Jennifer Lynn Knight and husband Taylor, Brendan Donaghy and Liam Donaghy; eighteen great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; sister-in-laws, Agnes Hix, Annie Lou Copeland, Joyce Walker, Peggy Lange and Marie Chandler-Dye, and brother-in-laws, Jimmy Sanders, Manuel Copeland, and Jerry Walker.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Reba Chandler; sisters, Alice Merle Chandler, Carol Green and Peggy Sanders; brothers, Donald Chandler and Herman Chandler and great grandson, Chance Aaron Chandler.

Pallbearers for the service will be Brain Carraher, Joseph Blake Chandler, Matthew Arron Works, Andrew Chandler, Brent Allen Gage, and Josh Samples.

Honorary pallbearers will be Clay Harris, Jeremy Stevens, and Justin Mullins.

The family will receive friends at 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., on Wednesday, October 26, 2016 at Croley Funeral Home Chapel in Gilmer.
