Funeral services for Mr. Sherman Davis, 92, of Hawkins will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, June 26, 2014 at the Cross Roads Baptist Church (Maple Springs Church) on FM 1795 in Upshur County with Pastor Kenny Richardson officiating. Masonic graveside services will be held by Big Sandy Masonic Lodge #916 at Paron Cemetery in Wood County under the direction of Croley Funeral Home in Gilmer. Mr. Davis passed away on Saturday, June 21, 2014, in Hawkins. He was born January 5, 1922, in the Shady Grove community, Wood County to John Frank and Alzara McManus Davis. Mr. Davis graduated from Gilmer High School and served in the U. S. Navy during WWII. He retired from Halliburton and was a Dairy Farmer. Mr. Davis was a Mason for more than 50 years in Big Sandy Masonic Lodge #916 and a member of the Scottish Rite and Shriners. He also was a Deacon at Cross Roads Baptist Church. Mr. Davis is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Dalton and Cindy Davis of Rockwall, Larry and Barbara Davis of Shady Shores, Lindley and Vangie Davis of Katy, Frank and Pam Davis of The Woodlands; former daughter-in-law, Kathy Goodwin of Searcy, Ark.; 9 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Preceding him in death are his parents, 1st wife, Laura Marilynn Davis on December 1, 1998, 2nd wife, Lureta Poole Davis on November, 2004 and sister, Clytell Ritchey. Pallbearers are Eric Davis, Michael Davis, Andrew Pratt, Kris Thompson, Robert Spielman and Chris Valasek. Honorary Pallbearers for Mr. Davis will be the Masonic Lodge of Big Sandy #916. Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 25, 2014 at Croley Funeral Home in Gilmer.
