Saundra Jeane Knight Edwards of Gladewater was born to Mamie Sue Green Knight and Homer Arnell Knight on March 31, 1942 in Gilmer, Texas. She passed away on March 12, 2023.
The oldest of three children, Saundra was a precocious child that learned very early an enthusiasm for words. As a young child she would learn to memorize and recite poetry and later developed a passion for reading. She was gifted in putting together words to offer wisdom, make someone laugh with silly verses, or express emotion with beautiful poetry.
She was a young bride to the love of her life, Max Mansfield Edwards, when they relocated to England for an Air Force deployment. They shared many adventures before returning to Gladewater, Texas in 1976.
Saundra was a spirited woman that could master any skill. She could sew, make beautifully decorated cakes, cut hair, make people laugh, feed a crowd, knit for a family member, find a bargain, or soothe a troubled spirit. Her children are often heard saying “Mom always said…” before saying something that could guide, comfort, or give an alternative perspective.
Saundra was preceded in death by her husband, Max Mansfield Edwards, parents; Homer and Sue Knight, brother; Homer Phillip Knight, daughter; Melinda Ann Edwards McKnight, son; Phillip Mansfield Edwards, son in law; William Max Hart, granddaughter; Rebecca Danelle Kates, and great grandson; Julian Lamont Fulton.
