Samuel Oliver Lucky, Jr.

Services for Samuel Oliver Lucky, Jr., 73, will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, January 23, 2016 at the Church of Christ, 1000 NE Loop 485 in Gladewater, Texas with Joe Chase officiating. Sam Lucky passed away on January 12, 2016 in Gilmer. Services are under the direction of Croley Funeral Home in Gladewater. Samuel Oliver Lucky, Jr. was born to Samuel and Velma Williams Lucky in San Antonio, Texas on May 29, 1942. Sam attended Sulphur Springs High School in Sulphur Springs, Texas. He joined the Coast Guard serving three years, earning numerous awards for his efforts in search and rescue in addition to the many awards given him during his time with the Coast Guard Auxillary. Mr. Lucky was a pilot, a member of the Masonic Lodge in Gilmer, Lion"s Club, and attended the Church of Christ in Gladewater. He was a Master Mariner and worked as a ship"s captain. He was most recently awarded a safety award by the FAA for exceeding safety standards. He also garnered numerous awards from the City of Gladewater for his involvement to better the community and surrounding areas. He is survived by his wife, Pamela Sue Lucky; children: Mary Ann Ward and husband, Edward, Dianne Nelson and husband, David, Cara Ellen Baines, Samuel Lucky and wife, Leigh, Darrell Lucky and wife Sherry; step-children: Stephanie McTyre and husband, Mark, Misty LaBrada and husband, Angel, Rocky Hill; brothers, Jerry Lucky and wife, June, and Mike Lucky and wife, Lucy; grandchildren: Shelly Proctor and husband, William, Wendy Johnson, Michael Johnson, Celinda Cox, David Vintila, Kenneth Nelson, Savanna Lucky and husband, Jeremy Perry, Rebecca Barnes, Timothy Baines, Elijah Baines, Caleb Lucky, Ethan Lucky, JoAnna Lucky, Olivia Lucky, Isaac Lucky, Robert Runyon, Robbie (Sissy Sue) Welch, Damon Smith, Alex LaBrada, R.J. Hill and Christian Hill; great-grandchildren Rayne Procter, Kylie Procter, Auhna Procter, Leaha Procter, Thomas Johnson, Preston Johnson, Caydence Cox, Jeremy Perry, Jr., Zayden Perry, TaeJon Perry, and Mason Welch; well as numerous nieces and extended family members. Mr. Lucky was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, JoNell Lucky, and his daughter, Rebecca Carol Lucky. Visitation will be at Croley Funeral Home in Gladewater from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, January 22, 2016.
