Ruth Morris Cummings

Services for Ruth Morris Cummings, 99, of Gilmer will be Monday, October 10, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at the Soules Chapel United Methodist Church in Gilmer with Reverend David Luckert and Reverend Steffani Chapman officiating. Interment will follow at Soules Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Sunday evening at Croley Funeral Home in Gilmer. Mrs. Cummings passed away on Saturday, October 8, 2016 in Tyler. Mrs. Cummings was born December 28, 1916 in Upshur County, Texas to the late Hardy Jackson Fennell and Mattie Farr Fennell. She worked in several public jobs in and around Gilmer; but spent the majority of her life as a mother and homemaker. Mrs. Cummings was a lifelong member of the Soules Chapel United Methodist Church. She married Horace Morris July 14, 1934 and they raised four children. Ruth was an excellent seamstress and in addition to sewing for her family, did sewing for the public. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great great grandmother and homemaker. Ruth will be truly missed by all the loving family and friends she leaves behind. She is survived by her two sons Rex Morris of Gilmer and Joe Morris and wife Sherry of Gladewater; two daughters Jean Ward of Cookville and Martha Lee and husband Charles of Gilmer; twelve grandchildren; numerous great and great great grandchildren along with many other loving family and friends. Mrs. Cummings is preceded in death by her husbands Horace Morris and K.C. Cummings and a grandson Joey Morris.
