Roy Donald Sanders

Funeral service for Mr. Roy Donald Sanders, 89, of Big Sandy, formally of Eagle Lake, TX will be held Saturday, January 5, 2019, 10:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church, Eagle Lake with Bro. Erik Lankford and Bro. Ken Temple officiating. The family will receive friends Friday, January 4, 2019 from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church, Eagle Lake. Interment will be held at Lehrer Memorial Cemetery following the service. Mr. Sanders passed away Wednesday, January 2, 2019 in Tyler, TX.

Mr. Sanders was born May 26, 1929 in Colorado County, TX to the late C.F. and Minnie (Obenhaus) Sanders. Roy lived the majority of his life in Eagle Lake and worked as a farmer where he grew corn, cotton, and hay in both Colorado and Wharton counties. He was a proud veteran in the United States Army and was a member of the Lions Club in Garwood and the VFW in Eagle Lake. Mr. Sanders also served as a deacon at First Baptist Church, Eagle Lake and Bonus Baptist Church. He also loved to hunt and fish.

He is survived by his daughters, Debra Bazinet and her husband, Ray of Big Sandy, TX, Kathy Bazinet and her husband, Billy of El Campo, TX; sons, Brian Sanders and his wife, Pat of Needville, TX, and Trace Sanders and his wife, Gabrielle of Cypress, TX; nine grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and three great great grandchildren.

Roy is preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Geraldine Sanders; son, Robbie Sanders; six sisters; and six brothers.

Pallbearers for Mr. Sanders service will be Robert Able, Jason Sanders, Kurt Sanders, Rodney Sanders, Corey Smith, Tim Turner, Chad King, and Kieth King.
