Graveside services for Roland R. Elms, 85, of Gilmer will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, March 30, 2014, at Willow Oak Cemetery with Bro. Holland Atchley officiating.
He passed away Thursday, March 27, at The Hospice of East Texas in Tyler after a short illness.
Visitation will be Saturday, March 29, 2014 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
Mr. Elms was born November 20, 1928, in Upshur County, Texas to Whit and Violet Elms. He was called to serve his country in the U. S. Army during the Korean Conflict.
He was retired from Lone Star Steel after 33 years of service and spent his retirement years enjoying his cattle and horses. A favorite activity was to take his grandkids for wagon rides with his Mustang horses pulling the wagon.
He became a Christian and was baptized five years ago and was currently a member of the New Way Country Church.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Carmelita Stitham Elms of Gilmer, son Ricky Elms and wife Joni of Gilmer, daughter Rolinda Shipp and husband Rick of Gilmer, grandchildren Carissa Little of Dallas, Natalie Gibbs and husband John of Austin, Joshua Little and wife Kathryn of Dallas, Lindsey Shipp of Austin, Chip Elms of New Caney and great grandchildren Cooper and Brady Gibbs of Austin.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Richard Elms and Charles Elms.
