R.D. "Buck" Cross

Funeral services for R.D. “Buck” Cross, 88, of Gilmer, Texas will be held at 2:00 P.M., on Monday, January 18, 2021 at the Croley Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Jeff Story officiating under the direction of Croley Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park in Gilmer, Texas.
Mr. Cross passed away on Wednesday, January 13, 2021 and was born on August 22, 1932 in Winnsboro, Texas to the late William and Emma Jordan Cross. Buck proudly served in the United States Army. He was a Texas State Trooper, retired as Upshur County Sherriff, and was Mayor of Gilmer for 12 years. He also drove new cars between Ford Dealerships for James and Brandon Milam, he drove over 950,000 miles during his time working there.
He is survived by his daughters, Sue Story and husband Jeff of McLeod, their children Jana Terry and husband Steven, their children, Emily, Molly, Ryan, and Sawyer. Shana Whittemore and husband Jonathan, their children Jude and Oliver; daughter, Susie Stephens and husband Arlyn of Longview, their children Scott Stephens and wife Mandy, their children, Abby and Cooper. Amanda Coleman and husband Brad, their children Max and Jake, daughter, Jeannie Cammack and husband Steve of Colleyville, their children Warren and wife Katie. Holden and wife Kendra; and daughter Stacy Williamson and Rick of Gilmer, her children Matthew Mullinix, Sara Fugler and husband Joe, their son Brady. Jimi Breckenridge and husband Clay, their children Jace and Peyton. Son, Jon Williamson and wife Lena of Gilmer, their children Zain Williamson and wife Heather, their children, Riley, Morgan, Marley, and Blain. Logan Williamson and his wife Miranda, their children, Wyatt and Jintri. Children and grandchildren of daughter Opal Barnes, Kristian Lee and wife Christal, granddaughter Wendy Edge her children, Perrin, Melody, and Autumn. Granddaughter, Stormy Tullar and husband Jeremy, her children, Ray and Jaycee, Bridget. Sister, Lanora Bogue and numerous nieces and nephews.
Buck was preceded in death by wife of 40 years, Ellaween. Son, William Cross; daughter, Opal Cross Barnes; two brothers and three sisters.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, January 17, 2021 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Croley Funeral Home in Gilmer.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Scott Stephens, Matthew Mullinix, Warren Cammack, Holden Cammack, Clay Brekenridge, Zain Williamson, Logan Williamson, Brad Coleman, Steven Terry, and Jonathan Whittemore.
