Raymond Larry Mayer, Sr.

Raymond Larry Mayer, Sr., 87, of Groves passed away after a brief illness on Monday, May 28, 2018 at Medical Center of Southeast Texas.
Raymond was born on January 12, 1931 in Gilmer, Texas to parents Tessie (Guidry) and Raymond John Mayer Sr. He had lived in the Groves area for 50 plus years and had worked at Gulf Oil Refinery as a welder for many years. Raymond served his country very proudly during the Korean War in the US Marine Corps. He enjoyed going fishing and watching sports. Raymond was a loving person who will be missed dearly.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Eva Mayer; his son, Raymond Larry Mayer Jr.; daughters, Melissa L. Young, Kristen G. Nelson and his brother, Roland Mayer.
Raymond is survived by his daughters, Amy D. Forman and her husband, Eugene of Groves, Janna L Ernst of League City and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, May 31, 3018 from 5 pm until 7 pm at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home in Groves, Texas. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, June 2, 2018 at 10 am at Hopewell Cemetery in Gilmer, Texas under the direction of Croley Funeral Home.
