Perry Owen Kopp passed away after a short battle with cancer at his home in Diana, Texas, on June 19th, 2024. He was born on August 1st, 1954, in Elyria, Ohio, to Owen and Ibeth Kopp (Villarreal). They moved to San Antonio where he attended Alamo Heights. He was an avid sports player and loved watching his sons, Jeffrey and Jason, play as well. His daughter, Melissa, took a more musical path, although Perry said the only instrument he could play was the radio.
A jack of all trades, Perry worked as a handyman, an insurance salesman, and for a pool cleaning company before climbing up the ladder in the construction industry. He grew his family and moved with his wife and children, Rhonda, Owen, and Nella, to Trimble County, Kentucky, where they lived for almost 10 years. They planted roots in 2008 in Diana, Texas, before he traveled to North Dakota, South Carolina, and Florida for work. He went from a civil hand to superintendent working on combined-cycle power plants with Duke Fluor Daniels Construction Corp. over his nearly 25-year tenure.
Perry loved spending time with family during a good round of golf, fishing, watching one of his favorite teams, or eating the most buttery and salty popcorn during a western or action movie. He was an avid concertgoer, seeing most of the big names in classic rock time and time again. He had a heart for all animals, sharing almost every meal with one of his beloved dogs or cats, and was even known to feed the local squirrels or manatees.
Perry was welcomed into heaven by his parents, Owen Kopp and Ibeth Ebner, brother Malcolm Villarreal, son Jeffrey, and daughter Jennifer. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Rhonda, and children Jason Kopp and his wife Shelby, Melissa McCoy and her husband Chris, Jeffrey’s wife Lena Kopp, Owen Kopp and his wife Destiny, and Nella Custer and her husband Dylan. He is lovingly remembered by his siblings Russell Kopp, Mike Kopp, Gail Nolen, Tom Ebner, Emmett Ebner, and their families. His legacy lives on with his 15 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, countless cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Leigh Barr, FNP-C, Croley Funeral Home, and County Line Baptist Church for caring for Perry and helping keep him comfortable. He will be interred at the County Line Baptist Church Historical Cemetery in Diana.
