Peggy was born in Gilmer, TX on July 15, 1935. She was the middle of three children born to Roy and Reba Beavers. She grew up on a family farm outside of Gilmer, attended Mings Chapel School, and then graduated from Union Grove High School in 1953. She loved to play volleyball, was a cheerleader, and was homecoming queen her senior year. She attended Tennessee Temple College in Chattanooga, TN where she met her husband, Raymond, and they were married in January 1955. She gave birth to her three children between 1956 and 1961. The family moved to Longview, TX in 1960 where her husband, Raymond, pastored several churches for 50 years, most notably Macedonia Baptist Church (for more than 30 years). Peggy was a stay-at-home mom, and she very dutifully and lovingly lived out the role of a pastor's wife. She is well remembered by many ladies who were part of the Sunday School class she faithfully taught for many years. In 1971, she was hired by Longview School District to be a teacher’s aide. The next year she became secretary to the principal at Everhart Elementary and filled that role until she retired from LISD in 1993. A few years before her retirement she and Raymond moved back to the farm where she grew up outside of Gilmer where she helped care for her aging parents. A primary reason she retired was to be an active and loving grandmother for her 7 grandchildren, who affectionately called her either “Momer” or “Momo”. All of her family loved her marvelous cooking. She was close to many of her cousins who lived in the Longview and Gilmer area. They regularly planned cousin get-togethers. Shortly after losing her husband, she happily began the next phase of her life by moving into Hawkins Creek Assisted Living in Longview where she enjoyed making many new friends. Peggy is well-loved and respected by hundreds of people in the Longview and Gilmer area and will be greatly missed by them all.
