Paul Courtney Bynum

In memory of a cherished husband, father, grandfather and brother, Paul C. Bynum, passed away on September 27, 2024, at the age of 73 in Gladewater, Texas. Born on March 2, 1951, to Lawrence Ralston Bynum and Theresa Braunstein Bynum in Houston, Texas. He grew up in Bellaire, Texas, and in 1974 married his college sweetheart, Patricia. They moved to Crosby, Texas, in 1977, where they raised their daughters, Rhonda and Susan. Paul and Patricia retired and moved to Gilmer, Texas, in 2015, where they built their dream home on 34 acres. They celebrated their 50th   Wedding Anniversary this past June.

Paul received his B.S. in Electrical-Electronic Technology from the University of Houston. He began his career at Dresser Atlas, which included designing an environmental test chamber for downhole logging equipment. Paul spent most of his career at Compaq Computers (now Hewlett-Packard) as a Project Engineer, where he built and managed an environmental test chamber for large-scale computer storage equipment.

Paul was a member of the Knights of Columbus (Sacred Heart Catholic Church Crosby and St. Theresa Catholic Church Gladewater) and volunteered at various charitable events for the Girl Scouts of America, Gilmer TEEA and Sacred Heart Catholic Church Czech Fest in Crosby.

His hobbies included hiking, photography, barbecuing and spending family time on the back patio of his home. He was an avid woodworker and built a workshop that any woodworker would envy.

Paul is survived by his wife Patricia; daughters, Rhonda Gayle Bynum and husband David A. Krejci; and Susan Marie Van Bergen and husband James B. Van Bergen; and favorite granddaughter, Megan Gayle Van Bergen. He is also survived by his brother Lawrence R. Bynum, Jr. and wife Jeannie. He is preceded in death by his brothers William Francis Bynum and David Ross Bynum.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Ladies Guild Scholarship Fund, St. Theresa Catholic Church, Gladewater, Texas, in memory of Paul Bynum.
