Patsy Noel Hays Kendall
Pasty Noel Hays was born in Vernon, Texas on December 3, 1932, to Noel C. and Marie Hays. Mrs. Kendall passed away on April 5, 2023 in Longview. After attending elementary schools there, her family moved to San Angelo and later to Corpus Christi where she graduated in 1950 and attended junior college there for one year. She was then employed by Southwestern Bell Telephone Company where she began a 25-year career in communications.
She met George Kendall when they were both in high school. She had “noticed” him on campus and wanted to meet him but didn’t know anyone who knew him. Then out of the blue, a fellow worker at JC Penney asked her if she would be interested in a blind date with a friend of hers. She accepted and it turned out it was George. Later that night when she arrived home, she told her mother that was the man she wanted to marry. Amazingly, that’s what happened 18 months later and lasted for 64 years. After their wedding they moved to a one bedroom apartment in Holyoke, Massachusetts, where George was stationed in the US Air Force. They lived there three years and had their first child, Eddie. After George was discharged, they moved to San Antonio, then to Rockport, Texas, where their other two children, Douglas and Nancy were born.
Pat became involved in placing foreign high school students in schools in the USA with Academic Year in America. She won an Alaskan cruise and trips to Spain, England, Scotland, and Italy.
They lived briefly in Houston and Goliad and then moved to Gladewater where he began his career as Transportation and Maintenance Director. They both retired in 1995 and moved to Gilmer where they lived on a farm and raised horses. They loved retirement and they bought an RV and almost wore it out going to Colorado three times, Big Bend, Wyoming, and lots of state parks.
They had a wonderful life together and often said she was “richly blessed”. George passed away in 2015 and she was also preceded in death by her daughter Nancy Kendall Telgemeyer in 2016, and in 2019 she sold the big house and lived In Wesley Assisted Living in Gilmer.
She is survived by sons and daughters in law, Ed and Kathy Kendall of Montgomery, Doug and Sharon Kendall of Gladewater; son in law, Le Roy Telgemeyer of Mt. Pleasant; seven grandchildren: Meredith Reynolds and husband Aaron, Jarrod Kendall, Cherry Downs and husband Kyle, Emily Jester and husband Jeffery, Salinda McCubbins and husband Brandon, Seth Telgemeyer and wife Kara, Sara Capps and husband Jon; eleven great grandchildren: Marlowe and Henry Reynolds, Brody and Brynn Downs, Hays and Margo Jester, Kendall and J.D. McCubbins, Bradley and Maggie Telgemeyer, and Jaxon Capps.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 8, 2023 at 11AM at Croley Funeral Home in Gladewater. A visitation will be held one hour prior at 10AM on April 8, 2023.
