Owen Gilbert

Mr. Owen Gilbert, age 83, of Lone Star, passed away peacefully, on Saturday, January 19, 2019 at Hospice of East Texas in Tyler. Owen was born in Delhi, Louisiana on January 22, 1935 to the late Louie Gilbert and Eunice (Owens) Gilbert.

Owen joined the U.S. Navy at age 17, serving honorably during the Korean War. He owned and operated his own heavy equipment, working in the oil field industry for 48 years. In his down time, he enjoyed shooting pool, fishing for catfish and Bass on Lone Star Lake, or writing and singing songs. Owen had a kind and gentle spirit, and was a dedicated and loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was a great man who led a life of devotion to his relationship with his Lord and Savior, who will be greatly missed by those he leaves behind.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, L.A. Gilbert; and sister, Alma Pearl Johnson.

He is survived by his loving wife, Diane Gilbert of Lone Star, TX.; sons, Garry Owen Gilbert and wife Shasta of Kilgore, TX., Rodney Wayne “Rod” Gilbert and wife Diane of Kilgore, TX.; step-children, John Richard “Dickey” Grogan, Jr., and wife Susie of Atlanta, TX., Wendi Moffett and husband Keith of Keller, TX.; sister, Maxine Hill of Delhi, LA.; grandchildren, Brent Owen Gilbert and wife Keely, Brandon Lane Gilbert and wife Jennifer, Justin Gilbert and wife Michelle, Kelly Haeckel and husband Nohl; step-grandchildren,Colby Worley and wife Jessica, Ben Worley and wife Amber, Stephanie Lee and husband Aaron, Kerri Norman and husband Jason, Laci Matlock, Morgan Elizabeth Amerson and husband Chris, Shreya Grace Moffett, Hayden Louis Moffett, Hunter Thomas Moffett, Karter Joseph Moffett, Shiloh Joy Moffett, Julia Catherine Grogan; and sixteen great-grandchildren.

A memorial visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 22, 2019 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Grubbs-Loyd Funeral Home in Diana, 1782 US Hwy 259 S. Diana, TX 75640. A memorial service to celebrate Owens life will be at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, January 23, 2019 at the Jenkins United Methodist Church 49 CR 2211 Daingerfield, TX 75638.
