Ovie Jewell McCarver Ellison, 91, went to be with her Lord and Savior on August 1, 2011. Services will be held at Croley Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday, August 3rd at 2:00 P.M. with Bro. Raymond Tenpenny officiating and interment to follow at Sunset Memorial Park. Visitation will be on Tuesday, August 2, from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Jewell was born on March 4, 1920, in Ore City, Texas the youngest child of William Henry and Mary Elizabeth McCarver. She was raised in Ore City, Texas. Jewell married the love of her life, Wilburn Ellison, who preceded her in death on August 11, 1985. They were longtime members of Pine acres Missionary Baptist Church. She played piano for the church for over 35 years. Gospel music was a huge part of her life, and she and Wilburn were always a part of the music ministry. They were wonderful examples of love and faithfulness to all who knew them. Her faith and walk as a Christian was a vey big part of her life. She was W.M.A. President at their church for several years. Jewell loved being a homemaker and loved to cook for family and friends. One of her favorite interests was gardening. Everyone who knew her knew she definitely had a green thumb. She never met a stranger, and loved everyone, and was loved by all who knew her. Jewell is survived by her children, daughter Betty Davis and husband Dell of Gilmer; son Bobby Wayne Ellison and wife Pat of Gilmer; seven grandchildren, Lori (Davis) and Stewart Houghtaling of Columbus, Georgia; Rodney Davis of Alexandria, Virginia; Traci (Davis) and Bobby Cole of Gilmer; Bradley Wayne and Jerri Ellison of Gilmer; Jason Mark Ellison of Longview; Jackie (Ellison) and Max Low of Gilmer, and Casey DeWayne Ellison of Longview and eight great grandchildren. Pallbearers are Rodney Blake Davis, Bradley Wayne Ellison, Max Low, Bobby Cole, Vernon Davenport and David Hunt. The family would like to thank Dr. Rucker Murry for his care of her. We would also like to thank the hard-working staff at Gilmer Care Center for the eight years of care of our mother.
