Oliver King Batte, Jr, 70, died at home with his family in Brenham, TX, on July 25, 2014. O.K. was born August 25, 1943 in San Antonio, TX to Oliver King and Lucille Cranford Batte. He grew up in Jackson, MS, graduating from Murrah High School. After graduating from Mississippi State University he joined the United States Marine Corps where he proudly served a tour in Vietnam; receiving several commendations, including the Bronze Star with "V" for valor for meritorious action in combat. He then attended and graduated from Ambassador College in Big Sandy, TX where he met his wife Elinda Martz. They moved to Jackson, MS where O.K. attained a law degree from Mississippi College School of Law. Although O.K. enjoyed a successful career as a petroleum land man, his heart always belonged to his family and to the outdoors. As a young man and as an adult he took great pride in the Boy Scouts. He was an Eagle Scout as well as a respected Scout Master. O.K. is survived by his wife Elinda, his children Jackie and John Blackwell, Oliver (Bucky) and Lan Batte, Lindy and Thomas Weiss, and 7 grandchildren: Taylor and Carter Blackwell, Braydon, Caleb and Olivia Batte, Jack and London Weiss. Also by his siblings Marty and Walter Dowdle, Shellie and Keith Matthews, and Richard and Beth Batte, as well as numerous nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the Red Cross.
