Services for Norman W. Barrow, 84, of Gladewater, will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, November 13, 2010, at Croley Funeral Home Chapel with Larry W. Osborne officiating. Born April 1, 1926, in Rochelle, Louisiana, he died Monday, November 8, 2010. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during World War II. He married Bettie Ritchie Barrow on March 27, 1947, in Kilgore, Texas, after meeting her in Japan while serving in the military. He began work as a state trooper for the Texas Department of Public Safety in 1950, and retired in 1976. He owned and operated Barrow's Bait and Tackle in Beaumont for many years. He sold his private business in 1988 and relocated to Gladewater. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Bettie Barrow of Union Grove; four daughters and sons-in-law, Mary and George Sculley of Longview, Judy and Gary Whitten of Emory, Bonnie and Phillip Mullins of Gladewater and Donna Barrow of New Braunfels; two grandchildren, Michael Wilson of Gladewater and Matthew Mullins of Gladewater; four great-grandchildren, Katherine Wilson of Whitehouse, Madison Wilson of Forney, Hailey Wilson of Forney and Joshua Bodenheimer of Whitehouse; one brother, Earnest Barrow of Judson; two sisters, Bonnie Barrow of Houston and Eunice Brown of Ingleside; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Lizzie Barrow; brother, Cecil Barrow; and sister, Marie McKinley. If so desired, memorials may be made to Beacon Hospice at Margaret's House, 5016 Gilmer Rd, Longview TX 75604. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Friday, November 12, 2010, at Croley Funeral Home in Gladewater.
