Nelda was born on January 12, 1947, in Gilmer, Texas.
Her family then moved to Arizona where she enjoyed many church and school activities. She received many awards as a student and excelled in academics. Nelda was taught by her grandfather (Ernest Jones) to add and subtract in her head. She played softball, volleyball, and tennis growing up and lettered in tennis while attending high school.
Nelda married Charles Maldonado in 1963, they have one daughter Kristie.
Nelda began her career with the phone company and was able to find employment while Charlie was enlisted in the United States Air Force. Nelda has lived in Belleville, Illinois, Bitburg Germany and Edwards, California.
Nelda returned to live close to her family in 1977 and moved next door to her sister Betty Jo Bailey. Nelda began working for United Telephone which was located in downtown Tyler. Nelda and Betty Jo loved each other and enjoyed many Saturday shopping trips with Carolyn Bailey Adams.
Nelda married Walter Sellers in 1979 and lived in Tyler for many years but moved to Athens, Texas with her job and later to Olathe, Kansas. Nelda loved working in Kansas because of all the stores, restaurants and movie theaters.
Upon her retirement she returned to Tyler to be near her family. It was known as the Lindsey Compound because of all the family homes. Her brother, sister, and aunt loved it and they did many things together.
Nelda was blessed with many grandchildren and she loved having them around her all the time and enjoyed attending all their events. The great grandchildren were the best part of her life, the oldest greats have many stories to tell about their Nana. She will be missed by them all, with her crazy stories, stashes of candy and soft drinks.
Nelda moved to Carrollton, Texas to be closer to Carolyn Adams and Darlene Starks and they cared for her as if she was their own mother.
Nelda’s health continued to decline but was able to visit with the majority of her grandchildren and great grandchildren at Christmas.
Nelda passed away on Wednesday, January 20, 2021 in Carrollton, Texas.
