Mrs. Davis passed away on Tuesday, November 20, 2018 in Longview surrounded by her family.
Mrs. Davis was born May 22, 1941 in Littlefield, Texas to the late W.A. McGuire and Tressie Opal Brashear McGuire. She graduated from Sweetwater High School May 26, 1959 where she served as Editor of the school newspaper, “The Pony Express” and worked on the school yearbook, “Yucca Gloriosa.” Nancy later attended Bible Baptist College in Springfield, Missouri. She worked many years at Texas Rehabilitation Commission’s Longview Field Office in numerous departments. In 1989, as a clerical supervisor, she was awarded TRC’s Employee of the Year being chosen from among 1,800 state employees. After retiring from TRC, Nancy worked as a substitute teacher for Gladewater Independent School District. She became a permanent employee for the district working on the former Broadway campus and then transferring to the Gay Avenue Primary office where she assisted parents and students and made many lifelong friends.
No matter where life took her, Nancy was active in church. She was baptized at Fundamental Baptist Church in Sweetwater. Nancy and her family have been longtime members of the First Baptist Church in Gladewater where she continued her work for God as a ‘Girls in Action’ leader. She loved taking her “G.A.” girls to church camp every year.
Nancy spent her spare time working with plants, especially her African Violets, painting shirts, and completing puzzles. She loved spending time with her family most of all. She was very involved in the community working alongside her late husband at various city, chamber, and school functions such as the Arts & Crafts Festival, Girl Scouts, and Band Boosters. She also enjoyed monthly get-togethers with a group of close friends called “Best of Friends Forever” who have been together for over 20 years.
She is survived by her daughter Amy Lynn Davis and Monty Mohon of Gladewater; son Jimmy Lynn “Bubba” Davis, Jr. of Waskom; brother L.V. “Bud” McGuire & Brenda McGuire of Houston; sister-in-law Linda McGuire of Kerrville; the newest addition to her family, grandson Davis Cullen Mohon of Gladewater.; aunt Vivian Brashear of Stephenville; sister-in-law Carrie Davis and niece Sherri Jo Davis of Maud as well as many other loving family and friends.
Nancy is preceded in death by her loving husband of 48 years Jimmy Davis; son Richard Jeffery “Jeff” Davis; her parents W.A. and Tressie McGuire; brother Jerry McGuire and in-laws G.F. and Hazel Davis.
