Murray Morrison was born June 29, 1941 in Gladewater, Texas, son of Dr. David G Morrison and Violette Johnson Morrison. He had two sisters, Dr. Katherine L Morrison Monden, deceased, and Jane Morrison Reynolds.
He was active in scouting and was an Eagle Scout in his youth. He loved to read and like his father was a history scholar. This led to his lifetime ambition to be a soldier and he met his goal. He studied hard and spoke many languages including Russian, Japanese, and Mongolian. When he enlisted in 1963 this knowledge helped get him into the US Army Security Agency or ASA. He had tours in Vietnam Nam and Japan. He had three enlistments and was awarded the Army Commendation medal with two oak leaf clusters, and the Army Good Conduct medal with three bronze knots device. His Vietnam Nam Service medal has two bronze stars. Murray ended his ASA career at the rank of E-6 to marry his wife, Yoshiko Umeta, a Japanese national. The rule at that time was ASA personnel could not marry foreign nationals without command permission, otherwise a soldier’s security clearance would be withdrawn, which automatically brought reassignment out of ASA.
His heart led him to 43 happy years of marriage until she lost her battle with cancer in 2014.
Murray was proud of his service to his country and his time in the “top ten percent “remaining VIGILANT ALWAYS!
Murray is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Yoshiko, his sister Katherine, and three babies.
Survivors are his sister, Jane Morrison Reynolds and husband Mike of Jefferson, Texas, nieces Karrie Jane DeLoach and husband Chris of Mt. Pleasant, Texas, Kassie Donaldson of Mt. Vernon, Texas, Beckie Austin of Jefferson. Nephews Michael Reynolds and Donna of Abbeville, La and Mason Reynolds and Lauren of New Rochelle, NY and many loving cousins and friends.
His corny humor will be missed.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 2, 2021, at the Croley Funeral Home Chapel with Mr. Phil Fowler officiating. Interment will follow at Gladewater Memorial Park. The family receive friends from 10:00 until service time.
