Moody O. Loftis

GILMER – Graveside services for Moody O. Loftis, 90, of Longview will be 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 27, 2017, at Hopewell Cemetery in Upshur County with Minister Rick Webb officiating. Interment will be in Hopewell Cemetery in Upshur County. Arrangements are under the direction of Croley Funeral Home in Gilmer. Mr. Loftis passed away Saturday, June 24, 2017 in a Longview nursing home.

Mr. Loftis was born May 8, 1927 in Upshur County to Marion E. Loftis and Lula Ferguson Loftis. He grew up during the depression era also, known as the greatest generation. He was a gentle quiet man, who served his country.

He enlisted in the Marines Aug 7, 1945 and served during World War II. Honorably discharged August 27, 1946 (and was paid $100 to muster out). Once home he worked for Spencer Harris, then reenlisted in the Army in 1950 and retired from the Army on June 1, 1969 as a
Staff Sgt E-6, having served in Germany, France, Korea, Libya and Vietnam. After retiring from the Army, he moved to Longview and worked for the Texas Highway Department in Maintenance and retired from the State in June 1987. Also, in June 1987, he moved to his home place in Latch.

Mr. Loftis is survived by his son, Mark Alan Loftis and wife, Lynne of Tyler; grandchildren, Aaron Loftis of Gilmer, Taylor Evans and husband, Nathan of Ashdown, Arkansas and Zachary Loftis and wife, Montana of Winnsboro; great-grandchildren, Matthew, Anna, Peyton, Brant and Wyatt.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years Lois Hollingsworth Loftis in 2003; and by his siblings, Tony Loftis, L.C. Loftis, Willie Mae Lane Eitel, Sybil Olson and Dorothy Parsons Hesse.
