It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Michael David “Mike” Bell, 81, who died peacefully at The Hospice Homeplace surrounded by love in Tyler on September 2, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born on October 25, 1942, in Gilmer, Mike was a devoted husband, father, and Papa. He was a cherished friend to many. He lived a life marked by unwavering strength, compassion, and an enduring spirit. Mike served in the U.S. Air Force before embarking on a career in construction.
Mike faced his illness with the same determination and grace that defined his life. His battle with cancer was met with courage and hope, and he remained a beacon of resilience for his family and friends throughout his journey. Mike’s favorite thing to do was spend time with friends and family. He always had a joke or a story to tell.
Mike is survived by his son, Michael Bell of Arlington; his daughters and sons-in-law Kimberley and Jason Barrick of Carrollton, Ohio and Amy and Freddy Castillo of Flint; and his grandchildren, Kylee Bell, Mackenzie Bell, Kade Ramey, Addison Ramey, Rylan Barrick, Branagan Barrick, Aidan Castillo and Asher Castillo; and his great grandchildren Jaymond, Olivia, Sawyer and Hudson. He was preceded in death by his wife, Delores, parents, Robert and Virginia Bell, and his brothers, Paul and Dickey Bell.
The family will host a viewing on Friday, September 6 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Croley Funeral Home in Gilmer, Texas. A funeral service will be held on September 7, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at Croley, followed by a graveside committal in Big Sandy, Texas at Chilton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Hospice of East Texas, whose care made Mike’s independence possible through the end of his life.
Mike's warmth, kindness, and sense of humor will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His legacy of love and dedication will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of being in his life.
