Melvin Roy Downs

Melvin R. Downs, Sr. DIANA �Services for Melvin R. Downs, 85, of Diana will be at 2:00 P.M., Friday, November 21, 2014 at Walnut Creek Baptist Church, with Reverend Marvin Denison officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Grubbs-Loyd Funeral Home in Diana. Interment will be at Walnut Creek Cemetery. He passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on November 18, 2014. Melvin was born December 13, 1928 in Birmingham, Alabama to Roy and Wilma Downs. He served in the U.S. Army, and later worked as a supervisor for Made-Rite Company where he retired after many years. Melvin was an avid fisherman and a member of Walnut Creek Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Bill Downs, sister Jean Downs and wife Barbara Downs. He is survived by his son: Mel R. Downs, Jr., daughter and son-in-law: Debbie and Jimmy Murrell, grandchildren: Amy Murrell and Angie Newman and husband Paul and great-grandchildren: Holly and Kayla Newman.
