Funeral services for Melvin Lee Specht, 98, of Tyler, formerly of Gladewater will be 2:00 PM Sunday, June 27, 2021, at Croley Funeral Home Chapel in Gladewater. The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon from 1:00 until service time at the funeral home. Mr. Specht passed away Thursday, June 24, 2021, in Longview.
Mr. Specht was born November 30, 1922 in Smackover, Arkansas to the late George Specht and Lola Griffin Specht. Melvin served in the United States Army during World War II. Melvin worked as a welder and retired from General American after 35 years of service. He enjoyed wood working and was known as a “Jack of all Trades”; he also loved his fishing trips to Alaska and traveling. Melvin will be truly missed by all the family and friends he leaves behind.
Melvin is survived by his son Melvin Specht and wife Sue of Dallas; three daughters Carolyn Pool and husband Charles of Longview, Nancy Caldwell of Dallas and Judy Forisha and husband Garvin of Houston; nine grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; one great great grandchild as well as many other loving family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Maxie Specht, daughter, Maxie Walker, sister, Lodusta Holland, brother, Walter “Boots” Specht and grandson, Brandon Forisha.
The family would like to thank the staffs of Haven Care of Longview and Compass Hospice for devoted care of Melvin.
