Services for Melvin D. Davis, 84, of Gilmer will be held 10:00 A.M. Saturday, April 6, 2013 at Croley Funeral Home Chapel in Gilmer with Reverend Richard Laster officiating and burial to follow at Sunset Memorial Park in Gilmer. Mr. Davis passed away on Wednesday, April 3, 2013 in Gilmer. Mr. Davis was born on September 2, 1928, in Gilmer to Allen Houston and Myrtle Annie Rials Davis. He was an inspector for Lone Star Steel retiring after 30 years. Mr. Davis was a member of Gilmer First United Methodist Church and Senior Citizens Group. He is survived by his wife, Ann Davis; daughters and sons-in-law, Earnestean and Rhaunal Williams, Elaine and Doug Carter, Donna and Gary Nugent all of Gilmer; grandchildren and spouses, Donald and Vikki Williams, Miranda and James Loyd, Jr., Doug Carter, Jr. and Lindsay, Jaime Carter, Nici and Rex Manley, Candace and Eric Wilson, and 14 great grandchildren. Chelsey, Morgan and Shelby Williams, Jacob Boothe, Zaydi Loyd, Corin Carter, Chloe Carter, Ransum Taylor, Everett, Delaney and Lacey Wilson, Erin Autrey, Aidan and Ely Manley. Visitation will be on Friday April 5, 2013 from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Pallbearers are Donald Williams, James Loyd, Jr. Doug Carter, Jr., Rex Manley, Eric Wilson and Tyler Davis. Honorary Pallbearers are the members of the Asbury Sunday School Class, Chester Studdard, Bruce Moler, Clovis Martin, Montie Erwin and Dwight Brannon.
