Melba Jean Archer

Services for Melba Jean Shaw Archer, 90, of Gilmer, will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, January 20, 2018, at Grubbs-Loyd Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Roger Gage, David Cotham and Rev. Steve Layton officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at Sand Hill Cemetery. Mrs. Archer passed away on Sunday, January 14, 2018, in Gilmer.
Melba Jean was born September 24, 1927, in Gilmer, to Elvin Luther and Essie Mae Shaw. She served her country proudly in the Navy as a Registered Nurse, and continued her nursing career for many years. After retirement, she was a devoted homemaker and member of Sand Hill Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Mitchell Lee Archer; a brother, Fletcher Lane Shaw and a sister, Joyce Hamilton.
She is survived by her sons, Michael Lee Archer, James Patrick Archer; brother, Eddie Shaw; grandchildren, Angela Rivera, Eric Archer, Steven Clegg, Angela Clegg, Emily Shaw, Alex O’Neill, Connor O’Neill; and numerous great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Friday, January 19, from 6 PM to 8 PM at Grubbs-Loyd Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sand Hill Cemetery Association.
