Mavis Jean Griffin

Graveside services for Mavis Jean Griffin, 85, of Gladewater will be Saturday, April 16, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the Mings Cemetery in Gladewater under the direction of Croley Funeral Home in Gladewater. Mrs. Griffin went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, April 12, 2016. Mrs. Griffin was born February 2, 1931 in Mounds, Illinois to the late Floyd Wimpey and Maude Elaine Littlejohn Wimpey. She worked as a housekeeper and also for many years in the cafeteria for the Gladewater I.S.D. Jean enjoyed walking, dancing, listening to music and gardening. She loved flowers especially roses and also grew some of the areas hottest peppers. Jean was a kind and giving person willing to help anyone in need. She put everyone before herself. Mrs. Griffin was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and homemaker. Jean will be missed by all the family and friends she leaves behind. Left to cherish her memory are her sister Shirley Fowler of Little Rock, AR; son Stanley Hayes and wife Mary Ann of Centralia, Ill; two daughters Deborah Matthews and husband Steve of Hallsville and Mary Griffin of Gladewater; 36 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; 12 great great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews as well as many other loving family and friends. Mrs. Griffin is preceded in death by her parents, husband Jimmie Griffin, sister Vivian Edwards, son Mark Armstrong and two daughters Cheryl Hayes and Terri Hayes. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Croley Funeral Home in Gladewater.
