Memorial service for Mattie Othello "Dusty" McClean, 89, of Hawkins will be 1:00 p.m., Saturday, January 11, 2014 at St. Dunstan"s Episcopal Church, in Mineola with the Reverend Thomas A. Pantle officiating. Interment will be in the Hawkins Cemetery in Hawkins. Arrangements are under the directions of Croley Funeral Home in Hawkins. Mrs. McClean passed away Saturday, January 4, 2014 at her residence. Dusty was born in Dallas, TX on January 12, 1924 the fifth of six children to Gracie DeFord and Davis Hammond Marr. She graduated from North Dallas High School and attended business school. During WWII she met a handsome young soldier from Philadelphia, John Harold McClean, and they were married June, 1946. Dusty retired from Chrysler and John retired from Marr Bros. and they moved to their lake home near Hawkins in East Texas, where they enjoyed gardening, fishing, family and friends. John died in 1987. Dusty is remembered for her sense of style and humor and her appreciation of family, friends and caregivers. She is survived by her children, Marsha McClean Coulter, Lisa McClean and John Marr McClean; grandchildren, Mattie and Mindy McClean; son-in-law, Gary Coulter; sister, Katherine Jackson; brother, James Allen Marr and many more extended family members, and by her two faithful Labrador Retrievers, Duncan and Caleb. Dusty is preceded in death by her older brothers, William Andrew, Davis Wynell and Porter Lee Marr. Memorials may be made in her name to your local humane society, your favorite charity or St. Dunstan"s Memorial Garden, 800 N. Johnson Street, Mineola, TX 903.569.2478. There is no formal visitation planned.
