Mattie Lou Moore Caffey

Mattie Lou Moore Caffey, a cherished member of her community, passed away on February 5, 2025, in Longview, Texas, at the age of 94. Lou was born on February 25, 1930, in the first log cabin built in Upshur County, Texas to Cecil and Della (Goodson) Moore.

Lou graduated from Union Hill in 1949. Her warm spirit and resilience were evident throughout her life, touching the hearts of all who knew her. She was a member of the Longview Church of Christ for many years.

Those left to cherish her memories are her sister, Claudene Boren and husband Ed, niece and caregiver, Sue Humphreys and husband Mike, four generations of nieces and nephews, and her special friends at Green Street Center.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Caffey; parents, Cecil and Della (Goodson) Moore; nephew, Billy Rex Gibbons; sisters, Viria Marie Phillips and Mary Ruth Gibbons Loftis.

Pallbearers are Taylor Vineyard, JL Phillips, Gordon Phillips, Casey Crow, Clayton Crow and Kris Humphreys.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during a viewing scheduled for February 8, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM at Croley Funeral Home in Gilmer, Texas with Mr. Phil Fowler officiating. Interment to follow at Crossroad Cemetery.
