Services for Mary Lou Cheatham Carney, 80, of Big Sandy will be Wednesday, April 13, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at the Croley Funeral Home Chapel in Gladewater with Reverend Terrill L. Pearson officiating. Burial will follow at Gladewater Memorial Park. Mrs. Carney passed away on Friday, April 8, 2016 in Longview. Mary was born May 19, 1935 in Greggton, Texas to the late James Frances Cox and Johnnie Samuel Thomas Cox. She was a retired cook after many years of service with the Whitehouse Middle School. Mrs. Carney was a devout Christian and longtime active member of the First Assembly of God in Gladewater. She had a kind and gentle heart; willing to help anyone in need. Mrs. Carney was a lifetime member of the VFW Women"s Auxiliary. Mary enjoyed playing cards, dominos, darts, pool, dancing, gardening and raising her chickens. She took great pleasure in spending time with family and friends especially her grandchildren. Mary was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker. She will be truly missed by all the friends and family she leaves behind. She is survived by her husband George Carney, Jr.; two sons and daughters-in-law Daniel and Lisa Cheatham and David and Nora Cheatham; two brothers Thomas Cox and Johnny Cox; five grandchildren Drew Nelson, Jennifer Nelson, Amber Kahn, Austin Cheatham and Travis Cheatham; nine great grandchildren; lifelong friend Nancy Draughon as well as many other loving family and friends. Mary is preceded in death by her first husband Dan Cheatham and daughter Donna Nelson. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Croley Funeral Home in Gladewater.
