Mary Ellen Harris

Mary Ellen Harris, 94, returned to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, January 10, 2025 in Joaquin, TX.  She was born on July 26, 1930 in Tehana, TX to the late Elton Anderson and Rachel (Oliver) Anderson.

Mary was first and foremost an amazing mother and grandmother. Sweet, gentle and easy going was how she was described.  When not tending to the needs of her family, Mary enjoyed reading, gardening and flowers as well as singing and playing the guitar.  She was an amazing cook.

Mary is survived by her children, Billy Joe Dunahoe Sr., Mary Katherine Thigpen, Barbara Jean Sorrells, Theresa F. Jones and Samuel E. Smalley; 23 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; several great-great children; sister, Grace Arlene Bruton; brother, Charles Anderson; as well as numerous extended family members and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Elton Anderson and Rachel (Oliver) Anderson; her husband, Drue Harris; sons, James Allen Dunahoe and Jack Edwin Dunahoe; son-in-law, Jessie Sorrells; brothers, James Hubert Anderson, Leonard Anderson and Lamar Anderson; as well as her sister, Linda Reather Smalley.

Funeral services for Mrs. Harris will be held on Thursday, January 16, 2025 at 12:00 noon at Croley Funeral Home in Gladewater, where a visitation will be held from 10:00 am until the service time at noon.  Following the services, Mary will be laid to rest in the Harris Cemetery in Fairplay, TX.
