Marlena Morine Terry

Services for Marlena Morine Terry, 83, of White Oak, will be held on Thursday, May 30, 2013, at 2 P.M. at the White Oak United Methodist Church with Reverend Dr. David Banks officiating. Burial will be in the new White Oak Cemetery. She passed away on Monday, May 27, 2013. Born on May 7, 1930, in Veribest, Texas, to James "Cot" Olan Raley and Wilhelmina Alma Marie Spieker Raley, she was raised in Junction, Texas, before marrying Euel Jackson Smith, who preceded her in death in 1960. She is survived by her husband, William Eppler Terry, with whom she enjoyed fifty-two years of abiding love and affection. "They were as one." She was a long time resident of White Oak, where she served as an active member of the White Oak United Methodist Church. Marlena was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and volunteer with Meals on Wheels. "Granny"s" time most treasured was with her family having fellowship and playing card games when many times she was forced to play the role of referee. She is survived by her brother, Olan Raley; sister, Minnie Pearl Hooker; and life-long friend Rosemary McAlexander. Her surviving children are James Hughey Smith (Joanne); Patricia Owens (Raymond); Gary Smith (Joy); Richard Smith (Sheron); Stephen Terry (Susan); Barbara Boone; and Mollie Upton (Paul). She is also survived by 17 grandchildren, Danny Terry, Joey Terry, Rusty Terry, E.J. Smith, Krystal Isgitt, Kelli Jester, Homer Owens, Jason Owens, Miranda Croft, Jeb Smith, Neely Smith, Billy Terry, Cody Terry, Mandy Munoz, Dustin Upton, Dexter Upton, Dakota Upton; and 28 great-grandchildren. Her family would like to thank Dr. Chastain and Dr. Alzaga for their outstanding care and would also like to mention her "card ladies" who always made her Mondays special. Known to all as "Mom" or "Granny," Marlena"s fighting spirit will be missed each and every day by all who were privileged to know and love her. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Marlena"s name to the White Oak United Methodist Church, 503 Center Street, White Oak, Texas 75693. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 P.M. on Wednesday, May 29, 2013, at Croley Funeral Home in Gladewater.
