Services for Lucy Finley Pettus, 89, of Gladewater, will be held on Friday, December 21, 2012, at 2 P.M. at Croley Funeral Home Chapel with Joe Chase officiating. Burial will be in Gladewater Memorial Park. Born on October 8, 1923, in Healdton, Oklahoma, to Bill and Iva Finley, she entered into eternal rest on Monday, December 17, 2012. On January 30, 1944, she married the love of her life, Jack W. Pettus, in San Diego, California. After World War II ended, they returned to Gladewater and then later moved to Freer, Texas. In 1955 they relocated to Midland and resided there until 2005 and then returned to their beloved Gladewater. She was a homemaker and a steadfast member of North Loop Church of Christ. She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Jack Pettus of Gladewater; 3 daughters and sons-in-law, Jane and Richard Hollingsworth of Hampton, Virginia; Julie and Roy Nicholson of Blowing Rock, North Carolina; Jill and Steve Scurlock of Gladewater; 8 grandchildren, Rachel, Connan, Geoffrey, Corey, Joshua, April, Cari, and Annabel; 6 great-grandchildren, Nico, Lilibeth, Iain, King, Ophelia, and Eulalie; 4 nieces, Judy Geddie, Pam Sherman, Jenny Smith, Patty Fouse; and her beloved poodle, Rhett Butler. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister and brother-in-law, Polly and Virgil Wallace; and mother-in-law, Velma Bigsby. She dedicated her life to serving her Lord, her church, her family, and her friends. She served as a Sunday School teacher, a Girls Scout leader; she was a world-wide traveler and a participant in numerous social activities. "Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her." (Proverbs 31: 28) The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 P.M. on Thursday, December 20, 2012, at Croley Funeral Home in Gladewater.
