Louis Azell Chevalier, a cherished member of our community, passed away on February 7, 2025, at the age of 90. He was born in Upshur County, Texas on November 5, 1934 to William and Sarah (Lindsey) Chevalier.
A devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Azell held his faith close to his heart throughout his life, finding strength and comfort in his beliefs. His dedication to his church community was evident, as he frequently engaged in service and fellowship with fellow members.
Azell proudly served his country in the Army, reflecting his commitment to duty and honor. His military service instilled in him values of resilience and dedication, qualities that were evident in all aspects of his life.
Those left to cherish his memories are his sons, David Chevalier and wife Diane of Gilmer, Mike Chevalier and wife Melissa of Gilmer; daughter, Charlotte Overstreet and husband Stan of Longview; sister, Thurza Blackshear of Carriere, MS; 7 grandchildren, Kipper Overstreet and wife Ashley, Kyle Overstreet, Lindsey Overstreet, Amy McKee and husband Jonathan, Dillon Chevalier and wife Andrea, Brianne Donaho and husband Justin, Emily Chevalier; 8 great grandchildren, Logan McKee, Landry McKee, Laurel Chevalier, William Azell Chevalier, Brynlee Donaho, Jace Donaho, Harper Overstreet and Hadley Overstreet.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Patricia Chevalier; 3 brothers, Foy, Bernard and Waymond; 8 sisters, Virgie, Esther, Mildred, Oni, Viola, Wanda, Faynell and Jean.
Visitation will be Tuesday, February 11, 2025 at Croley Funeral Home in Gilmer from 5:30-7:30 PM. Funeral service will be Wednesday, February 12, 2025 at 10 AM at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Gilmer. Interment to follow at Kelsey Cemetery.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Wesley House, Wesley Oaks and Heart to Heart Hospice who cared so much for our dad during his time there.
