Funeral services for Mr. L. J. Bishop, 91, of Gilmer will be held at 10:00 A. M Thursday, June 17, 2010 in the Croley Funeral Home Chapel in Gilmer with Trevelyn Powell officiating. Interment will follow in Willow Oak Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday, June 16, 2010 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. Mr. Bishop died at Beacon Hospice at Margaret"s House on June 14, 2010, after a lengthy illness. Mr. Bishop was born on January 24, 1919, in Upshur County to Early Cheston Bishop and Lena Bessie Carpenter Bishop. He attended Union Ridge Schools and married Jeanette Landers on November 1, 1942. Mr. Bishop worked selling ice, landscaping shrubs and delivering butane for O. W. Duncan and Strube"s Propane in Pittsburg. He attended Willow Oak Baptist Church and Union Ridge Methodist Church. Mr. Bishop is survived by his wife, Jeaneatte Bishop of Gilmer; his children, Charlotte and Lloyd W. Jackson of Longview and Yvonne and Rex Youngblood of Gilmer; grandchildren, Kevin and Nicole Youngblood, Brian Youngblood and Carmen Youngblood; great grandchildren, Ellie and Colson Youngblood; two sisters-in-laws, Katie Bishop White of Gilmer and Patsy Bishop of Pittsburg; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Alton Bishop and Glen Bishop, sister, Mattie Mae Parrish, niece, Deanna Bishop; and a nephew David Bishop. Pallbearers are Harold Wayne Parrish, Bill Parrish, Mark Bishop, David Bynum, Jason Kni. The family would like to thank the hospice staff and special nurses for their love and care.
