Litmon Young (L.Y. "Sonny") Sheffield

Litmon Young (L.Y. "Sonny") Sheffield, 89, of Gladewater, passed away on Sunday, November 24, 2024.  Sonny was born on October 28, 1935 in Pinehurst, Georgia to the late Columbus Hyman Sheffield and Bessie Cleo (Swearingen) Sheffield.  At the age of 7, his family moved to Corpus Christi, TX.  Sonny graduated from Roy Miller High School and then attended Texas Christian University, where he played on the Fighting Horned Frogs Football Team.

Sonny was self-employed and worked as a Real Estate Investor as well as a Petroleum Land Man.  He will be remembered as being a kind, caring and honest man.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Betty Sheffield; three very special girls that he shared his life and love with, Sharon Richardson, Katie Richardson and Maggie Brown; son, Scott Sheffield; daughter Sandy Sheffield; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Sonny is preceded in death by his parents, sister, Beverly Halt, and son, Joe Sheffield.

Graveside services for Sonny will be held on Wednesday, November 27, 2024 at 10:00 am at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Pritchett.  A visitation for family and friends will be held on Tuesday evening from 5:00-6:00 pm at Croley Funeral Home in Gladewater.

In lieu of flowers and per Sonny's request, donations may be made to St. Jude's, an animal shelter or the charity of your choice.
