Graveside services for LaRue Daine Robertson Sewell will be held on Saturday, February 9 at 2 p.m. at the Gilmer City Cemetery with the Rev. Richard Laster officiating. Mrs. Sewell died February 7, 2013, in Gilmer after a lengthy illness. She was born January 15, 1918, at Glenwood to John A. and Minnie Tucker Robertson. She graduated from East Mountain High School in 1935. She attended College of Industrial Arts, presently called Texas Women"s University, in Denton. Mrs. Sewell worked her first jobs in various offices in Gilmer. She was manager of Perry"s, Firestone, and Devenport"s Variety Store over the years of her career in retail. She finished her lengthy career working for Hudgins Department store where she loved and served customers for over 30 years. She attended and was active in the Methodist church all of her life where she loved and served the Lord in many capacities. She taught children"s Sunday School, vacation Bible school and was the youth sponsor for many years. She sang in the choir and was active in the United Methodist Women. She was a member of the Electa Sunday school class. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Sewell, and her son, Ronald Wayne. Also preceding her in death were her parents, a sister, Lena Hogg, and a brother, Everett Robertson. Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter and son-in-law Kathy and James McClain of Gilmer; grandson Christopher McClain and wife Debbie of Winnsboro; granddaughter Jennifer Drum and husband Jeremy of Garland; one niece Frieda Jetter of Longview; and nephews Gary Robertson of San Diego, CA and Brian Robertson or Deary, Idaho. Visitation will be Friday, February 8, from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church, 105 N. Montgomery St., Gilmer, TX.
