Larry was born March 23rd, 1945 in Raleigh, North Carolina. At three he was lovingly adopted by Victor and Ila Mae Pilcher. Larry loved to tell the story that he was chosen by them.
Larry enjoyed sports, his favorite teams were the Texas Rangers and the Dallas Cowboys. Larry participated in sports at New Diana where he played as offensive lineman. Weighing only 145 pounds, he was small but mighty. He graduated high school there in 1963, and continued his education at Kilgore Jr. College. Following college he served in the Army National Guard from 1967-1973.
Larry is survived by his wife Sharon. Sharon and Larry married October 24, 1970 in Idabel, Oklahoma. Together they raised their four children, Tonya, Terry, Scott and Lisa. She and Larry set the example of what makes a lasting marriage the last 52 years. As Sharon’s sister Barbara said, “Sharon took her wedding vows seriously”.
Larry is also survived by his father in law “Papa” Charles Narramore, sister Barbara Powell, sister-in-law Barbara McCay, brother-in-law Larry Wallace, along with family in North Carolina.
Sharon and Larry’s blessing quickly multiplied with the marriages of their children, thirteen grandchildren, and six great grandchildren who all affectionately know them as “Mamaw and Gigi”.
Larry loved spending time with his family. He coached his son's Dixie Youth baseball team in Gilmer throughout the 80’s. Larry had many hobbies and was a millwright by trade, he could fix anything. After retirement he decided he wanted to be a truck driver and drove for Roehl for eight years. In 2007 he and Sharon went to Gibbons Creek in Grimes county, Texas. They spent eight years there as park rangers. Larry enjoyed watching his grand and great grand children participate in all their activities. Cruise vacations were his favorite pastime.
Larry lived a full life leading up until his final days with the help of his wonderful hospice team Samantha, Jodi and Bill and staff members at Gilmer Care Center, Kristina, Kristy, Jamie, Miriam, Meagan and many more.
His final days included making new friends like his buddy “T”, celebrating his 78th birthday, the marriage of his grandson Conner, and the arrival of his latest great grandchild George Henson born April 4th, who he got to meet a day before his passing.
In the sadness of our loss, we are comforted by Larry’s relationship with the Lord and God’s gift of the circle of life.
