Lamon Eloise Geddie

Lamon Eloise Geddie, beloved member of the Gilmer community, passed away on July 16, 2023, in Gilmer, Texas. Lamon was born on August 30, 1950, in Galveston, Texas. She was known for her dedication to her work and her involvement with the First Methodist Church in Gilmer as the financial secretary.

Lamon's commitment to her career at First Methodist Church was exemplary. Her diligence and attention to detail served as an inspiration to all who worked alongside her. She was a valuable asset to the church and will be deeply missed by the congregation.

A loving wife and caring mother, Lamon leaves behind a profound legacy of warmth and kindness. She is survived by her daughter Chandra Sorrells and husband Jeff of Gilmer; her sisters Lynda Gavin Teasley of McKinney and Janie Gavin of Los Angeles, California. She was also blessed with four adoring grandsons: Raymond, Nicholas, Samuel, and Zachary Sorrells of Gilmer; nieces Wendy Wood Alexander of Gilmer and Kristin Wood Thurston of Colorado; her nephews Michael Wood of Carrollton and Craig Teasley of Colorado;  several great-nieces, great-nephews, and extended family members who were touched by her love and guidance throughout her life.

She was preceded in death by her husband D.L. "Lonnie" Geddie; infant son James Dewey Geddie; her parents James Evan and Eloise Shipp Gavin; and her grandparents Otis Oscar and Franklin Josphine Shipp.

Lamon's proudest accomplishments extended beyond her immediate family circle. She was an active member of the Daughters of the Nile, Sharaun Temple in Tyler, Texas.  In 1994, Lamon had the honor of being crowned queen of the Daughters of the Nile, a testament to her dedication and leadership within the organization.

Funeral services to honor Lamon's life will be held at Croley Funeral Home in Gilmer on July 20, 2023. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am, followed by the funeral service at 11:00 am. with Rev. Matthew Smith officiating, interment to follow at Floyd Cemetery. 

The passing of Lamon Eloise Geddie has left an indelible void in the hearts of those who knew her best. Her gentle spirit, admirable accomplishments, and unwavering devotion to her loved ones and community will forever remain in our memories. In honor of Lamon's life well-lived, donations may be made to the First Methodist Church, 105 N. Montgomery St., Gilmer, Texas 75644.
