GILMER " Kyle Jackson Mayfield of Gilmer, 50, passed away on Saturday, November 21, 2015. He was the owner of Boxcar Bar B Que in Longview on Highway 300. He and his son opened the business at that location five years ago and had seen it grow from small neighborhood patronage to serving organizations and citizens all over Longview and surrounding areas. Kyle was born in Longview, Texas on January 18, 1965, to Kenneth and Suzanne Powers Mayfield. He is survived by his mother and a son, Keylon Mayfield and a sister and her husband, Stephanie and J.P. Hall of Hawkins and their sons Denver and Kelli Hall and daughters of Bullard, and Chance and Allie Hall of Hawkins; his aunt and uncle Brenda and Fred Heath of Durham, NC and their children Dr. Chip and Susan Joy Heath of Los Gatos, CA, Susan Heath Hays of Bryan, Dan and Amanda Heath of Raleigh, NC; his aunt Deloma and Ronnie Poole of Gilmer and her children David and Amanda Powers of White Oak, Kent and Barbie Powers of Tyler. And Leighann and Jeff Johns of Corpus Christi. Kyle began his school years in Gilmer but moved to Hawkins with his family and graduated from Hawkins High School in 1981. He enrolled at TJC and looked for a part-time job. A former teacher, Joe Brittain, was about to open the first video store in Tyler and Kyle was one of his first employees. When the store closed, Kyle began working for Union Pacific Railroad and worked for them until he moved to Gilmer. He opened Boxcar Barbecue at Wilful Crossing in Hawkins and then moved the business to Longview in 2010. He was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth Mayfield. Private interment was at Sunset Memorial on November 24, and was officiated by Rev. Charles Johnson. Memorial services will be held Saturday, December 5, at 2:00 PM at the First United Methodist Church in Gilmer with Rev. Richard Laster officiating. Visitation will be after the service. Memorials may be made to the Highway 80 Rescue Mission, 3117 W. Marshall Ave., Longview, TX 75604 or to the church of charity of choice.
